We are almost in the last month of the year 2021 and in the world of software development there are constant changes, which sometimes we do not realize or go unnoticed from our sight and programming languages are no exception, the percentage points are moving in the ranking table constantly and a language can go down or up in each month.  The present data of this Ranking is compiled from TIOBE, a company that measures the quality of the software code of many projects at a global level, this company verifies daily more than 1056 million lines of software code of its clients around the world.  TIOBE is based on the ISO 25010 standard on software quality and it measures 350 standardized aspects automatically.  The result is a score between 100 (level A) and 0 (level F), the methodology that TIOBE uses is defined as the TIOBE Quality Indicator.

Ranking

For more than 20 years since the first TIOBE Ranking was launched, PHP has been a language that has always been in the top 10 consistently.  We have recently seen PHP struggling to stay in the top 10.  The PHP programming language was once the master of web programming, but now it faces a lot of competition.  That is not to say that PHP is dead, as there are still many small and medium-sized businesses that rely on PHP.  PHP will probably decline a bit more in ranking, but at a very slow pace.  Two of PHP's competitors, Ruby and Groovy, each went up 3 positions this month; Ruby from 16th to 13th and Groovy from 15th to 12th.
